MAJOR WORKS
Two tunnels for a total length of 9,5 km :
  • Tunnel C from Tseung Kwan O to Kwun Tong, 5.3 km long, 4.23 m diameter, which links the shafts previously excavated by another contractor.
  • Tunnel A-B from Chai Wan to Kwun Tong via Shau Key Wan, 4.2 km long, 3.2m diameter, which links other two shafts to Kwun Tong shaft previously excavated by another contractor.
  • For the excavation of both tunnels, two main beam type TBMs were adopted.
  • Both tunnels are located 100 metres beneath the seabed and highly urbanised reclamation areas.

Tunnel lining
Temporary rock supports installed according to the NATM
Fibre reinforced concrete pipe to be built inside the tunnels: two parallel 1.35 m. diameter pipes inside the 4.23 m. diameter tunnel and single variable from 1.20 to 1.35 m. diameter pipe inside the 3.2 diameter tunnel.

GEOLOGY
Volcanic Tuffs and Granites with UCS ranging from 80 to 350 MPa
